The XGN15-12 series AC metal ring main switchgear is applicable to the electric power system with the AC frequency of 50Hz and voltage of 12KV and it is widely applied to the industrial and civilian cable ring main unit as well as power supply terminal.
It is especially applied to the following places such as power distribution of the urban residential courtyard, small secondary substation, switch station, case type substation, factory, shopping mall, airport, subway, wind power generation, hospital, gym, railway and tunnel etc.
Structure of Ring Main Unit of XGN15-12 II and III Types
The AC metal main unit of XGN15-12 II and III types is composed of the following four parts:
The whole switch cabinet of XGN15-12 II and III types can be divided into the upper and lower units. Its upper unit includes the bus room, load switch, operating mechanism room and low pressure room, which composes of a whole unit with the cable room of the upper unit or separated. It can be safely and easily installed on the equipment in the upper unit for maintenance and transformation. The whole upper unit can be replaced when necessary.
A Bus Room
The bus room is set on the upper part of the cabinet. The main buses are connected in the bus room and go through the whole row of switch cabinets.
B Switch Room
An FLN36-12D SF6 load switch is installed in the switch cabinet and its external hub is casted by the epoxy resin. The SF6 gas is inflated as an insulating medium. The SF6 gas densimeter or gas density apparatus with alarm contact may be set in the switch room according to the customer requirements.
C Operating Mechanism, Interlocking Mechanism and Low Pressure Control Room
The mechanism with interlocking has the control role at the same time. The spring operating mechanism with a position indicator and mechanical interlocking device are installed in the mechanism room. The auxiliary contact, trip coil, emergency trip mechanism, capacitive charged display, key lock and electrically operated device can be also installed. The low pressure room is used to set the control loop, metering device and protective relay. Two same low pressure rooms are set in the cabinet with the width of 750mm, so that more accessories can be installed.
D Cable Room
The cable room is mainly used for cable connection. The single-core or three-core cable can be connected by using the simplest non-shielded cable head. At the same time, the abundant space can also accommodate the components such as arrester, current transformer and lower grounding switch etc. Being designed according to the standard, the cabinet door has the view window and safety interlocking device. The sealplate and cable clamp are equipped for the baseplate of the cable room. The baseplate of the cable room and front frame of the door can be disassembled for easy cable installation.
Basic Components of XGN15-12 Type Ring Main Unit
The FLN36-12D switchgear is independently researched, developed and manufactured by introducing the overseas technology and according to the domestic electric power system. Its main components are domestically-made high quality products.
The switchgear is a rotary dynamic contact with double breaks and three positions (two positions can be assembled according to the customer requirements) and it takes the SF6 gas as the arc extinction medium. The dynamic contact is placed in the external hub made of the die-cast epoxy resin with a reinforced structure. Each switch is permanently sealed after the SF6 gas with the relative pressure of 0.4bars is inflated and the helium detector can be used to detect whether there is gas leakage. The typical installation method in the epoxy cabinet is horizontal installation by placing a steel clapboard between the cable room and bus room. Such installation method will make the bus and cable contact joint to be isolated to comply with the strictest safety requirements for the operation maintenance.
There is weak point at the rear of the external hub. If the internal current has arc when the load switch is disconnected or connected, it will be disconnected, then the arc discharge valve on the cabinet will be disconnected and lead the over-current air to outside the cabinet.
Operating Mechanism of Single-spring with Double Functions: K Type Mechanism
Disconnection and connection functions: the disconnection and connection operations can be independently carried out by using the operating arm or motor.
Operating Mechanism of Double-spring with Double Functions: A Type Mechanism
Disconnection and connection functions: the disconnection and connection operations can be carried out by using the operating arm or motor. The energy for operation is provided by the compression spring. The contact is connected after this spring is released. The disconnection and connection operations are independently carried out by using the button (O) or release unit or dynamic release device.
Functions of the grounding switch: the disconnection and connection functions are independently carried out by using the operating arm. The energy for operation is provided by the compression spring. The contact can be connected or disconnected after this spring is released.

SFG Type Load Switch
The SFG type load switch has the following three states: connection, disconnection and grounding.
The load switch uses SF6 as arc extinction and insulating medium and the window made of the secondary thermal plastic material is installed on the external hub of the switch for observation. Each load switch is permanently sealed and maintenance free (30 years). The relative pressure of the SF6 gas in the load switch is 0.4bar. The SFG load switch includes a capacitive voltage divider indicating the voltage. The mechanical service life of the load switch is 5,000 times of connection and disconnection as well as 1,000 times of grounding and dis-grounding.
The switch and operating mechanism are placed in the dismountable upper unit.

Single-spring Operating Mechanism of the UES-K3/2 Type
The single-spring operating mechanism of the UES-K3/2 type matches the SFG load switch to control the disconnection, connection and grounding of the load switch. During the operation, the whole set of IVF J220001 R2 central interlocking device must be installed in front of UES-K3/2.
The single-spring operating mechanism of the UES-K3/2 type connects and disconnects the load switch by using the energy stored in the flat spring. The full-operating angle is about 180° (90°+90°). Connect or disconnect the load switch clockwise and connect or disconnect the grounding switch anticlockwise.
Under the normal conditions, it is unnecessary to maintain the whole use period of the operating mechanism. Its mechanical service life is 5,000 times of connection and disconnection as well as 1,000 times of grounding and dis-grounding.
The UEMC40K8C/1 electrical device may be equipped for the UES-k3/2 type single-spring operating mechanism. The disconnection time of the load switch is about 40ms.
Central interlocking device
A new central interlocking device is used in the switch cabinet, which can avoid misoperation and applicable to several interlocking methods. The padlock or key lock may be installed for this device.
Position display and operation indication
The labels with different colors may be used for the position indication.
Manual operating handle
The 1VF J220002 R2 manual operating handle is used to avoid the operation with error rate.
UES-A3/2 Double-spring Operating Device
UES-A3/2 is used together with the SFG load switch and SDF switch cabinet.
The same operating mechanism is used to control the disconnection, connection and grounding of the load switch. UESA3/2 is also used to operate the EF grounding switch. When the operation is carried out, the whole set of 1VF J220001 Ra central interlocking device must be installed in front of the UESA3 and 2.
UES-A3/2 uses the energy stored in two flat springs. The spring K is used to connect and disconnect the load switch when the normal operation is carried out, while the spring A is used to quickly disconnect the load switch. The spring A will store the energy and be locked during the normal operation process and it will be released only when the signals from the fuse, related trip coil or manual button. In other cases, the use of UES-A3/2 is the same with that of the UES-K3/2. After the trip, the operating shaft must return to the disconnection position.
The fully-manual operation angle is about 180° (90°+90°). Connect or disconnect the load switch clockwise and connect or disconnect the grounding switch anticlockwise.
Under the normal conditions, it is unnecessary to maintain the whole use period of the operating mechanism.

The ring main unit with the breaker is mainly used as the incoming line cabinet of the main power supply and backup power supply as well as the middle section cabinet of the power supply system with double power supplies.
The breaker may be equipped for the XGN15-12 II or XGN15-12 III ring main unit as a main switch, but their boundary dimensions are slightly different.

Structure of Indoor High Voltage Vacuum Breaker Cabinet of ABB-VD4
The ABB-VD4 vacuum breaker is applicable to the indoor switch system taking the air as insulating medium, meeting the requirements of various operations of the grid in the normal or accident state, including short-circuit current connection and disconnection as well as automatic re-connection and having high operation reliability and long service life.
The installation method of the ABB-VD4 vacuum breaker in the switch cabinet may be stationary method or drawout method installed on the handcart chassis or the ABB-VD4 vacuum breaker can be used by being installed on the frame.
The breaker has the cylindrical appearance and vertically installed at the rear of the external hub of the support type breaker operating mechanism. It has the assembly type and the conductive part is set in the pole rod casing which is made of the insulating material, preventing the vacuum arc extinction room being from the external effects and mechanical damage.
The energy storage spring of the operating mechanism is a flat spiral spring. One operating mechanism can be used to operate the three-phase pole rod. To extend the flat spiral spring will store sufficient energy for the breaker action. The operating mechanism of the flat spiral spring includes the flat spiral spring with an external cover, energy storage system, gear, operating mechanism and connecting rod from the force transmission to all pole rods. The auxiliary parts such as energy storage motor, release, auxiliary switch, control equipment and meter etc. in front of the external hub of the breaker. The flat spiral spring has the manual energy storage and electrical energy storage.
The operating mechanism is applicable to the automatic re-connection. What’s more, because the time of the electrical energy storage is very short, several automatic re-connection can be carried out at the same time.
Other Cabinet Types
The metering cabinet is used for measuring the voltage, current and power and the lead locks are installed for the front upper door and lower door for lead sealing of the power supply department.
Cable Hoisting Cabinet
The hoisting cabinet is used for the connection of the cable and bus. There are cable clamps at the cabinet bottom for cable fixation. The arrester and charged indicator can be equipped according to the user requirements. The current transformer can be installed in the cabinet with the width of 500mm.
Double-power Supply Incoming Cabinet
This equipment consists of two electrical load switch cabinets and whole set of backup automatic switching device. In order to achieve the automatic switching function of the system, except for the traditional PT collection voltage in terms of the voltage judgment, the charged display check mode is also introduced for this system. The equipment may have the following operating modes according to the actual situation:
